The True Test
And not that WWE, Monday Night Raw stuff you may have heard of. This is legitimate combat sport and the best wrestlers are among some of the most fierce athletes on the planet; and some transition into true combat effortlessly and dominate - i.e. Aaron Pico. He's an absolute wrecking machine, avoid his hands, take-downs, submission attempts, ground and pound... Just don't fight the guy. Give him the belt.
Wrestlers know what it's like to sacrifice, because even down to the youngest level of the sport you will find athletes no more than sometimes 8-10 years old pushing themselves a little extra to lose that pound or two for their weight class.
Wrestlers spend countless hours a week in practice rooms, tossing partners and drilling technique endlessly until their legs give and they know it's time to go home for the day.
To go out and put everything you have on the line against a skilled opponent takes gut, determination and a certain amount of brass that doesn't come easy. Even surviving the 7 minute match sometimes is a battle itself, and there are 4 OT periods that you can wrestle making it almost 10 minutes in a wrestling match. Are you willing to push yourself for Glory? Wrestlers will.
We'll preach it forever until Wrestling is larger than the NFL, look up American Wrestling League. It's a professional freestyle wrestling circuit that's exactly the same competition rules as international/Olympic competition. And it's right here, in the United States.
Let's continue to grow our great sport, and our Unorthodox Community right along with it.
